Cafe dawn is a community minded and environmentally conscious coffee shop in historic downtown Salida. Our mission is to provide beautiful, tasty drinks along with all-natural Colorado products in a quick and efficient manner, while making our customers feel at home.
Established in 2008, cafe dawn was voted Best Coffee in 2009 and 2010 by the community. Additionally, our local suppliers, which include Flour Girl, Kalamata Pit, Tony's Restaurant and The Fritz, have also been recognized as the Best of Salida.
Owners Dawn Heigele and Phillip Benningfield have over 40 years of combined experience in the service industry. Dawn has a Bachelor of Science in Restaurant Administration from Missouri State. She gained management experience in corporate restaurants such as Ruby Tuesdays and Applebee's. Phillip has been in a relationship with making coffee for over 14 years. His passion for coffee inspired him to write a book about the coffee culture called The Dark Roast. In 2010, Phillip was voted Salida's Best Barista.
In addition to running the coffee shop, Dawn and Phillip offer coffee shop consulting. Benningfield and Heigele Consulting aid coffee shop owners with proper drink preparation, service and coffee shop start up.
